11 Plus Verbal Reasoning

In primary school when children are about to leave their final year ( year 6) they may opt take the 11 plus. This test is given to pupils who want to attend a grammar secondary school. Generally, pupils will be of the age of 10 when they take this assessment test.

Typically these 11 plus test contain 4 disciplines such as: Maths, English, Verbal and Non verbal.

The Verbal Reasoning part of the 11 plus Test assessment will require students’ ability to recognise patterns and relationships between words and sentences. anyone who wants to score highly on the verbal reasoning part of the tests must practice a wide variety of verbal reasoning type questions.

Q1. C = how
EXPLANATION = it is pronounced differently than all the other 3 words.

Q2. B = paid
EXPLANATION = if you were to put ‘im’ with the words ‘patience’, ‘pair’ and ‘mature’, you would get: impatience, impar and immature. However, if you tried to put ‘im’ with ‘paid’, it would not be grammatically correct.

Q3. B = calendar
EXPLANATION = the word that would best complete the sentence would be ‘calendar’. This is the only correct spelling of the word.

Q4. D = RI

EXPLANATION = each group is made of first letter from the back of the alphabet and second from the front of the alphabet. They move two spaces each time. So after TG you will get RI in the sequence.
